OCR: by William 9. Reed THE MIST Amid the sheathing, noirky mist Of hiddenfactuality, There lies the unadmitted truths Of genuine actualities. But we who dwell within the mist He spoke of the days whenthe mist wasn't there Are quite a passive throng. And how it had come there to be; We'd like to deny, but carmot defy, And of people who gazed when the world was n't hazed; There must be right and wrong. Basking awed inits stark clarity. And, if it be so, thenall of us know He told of the knave who had fas hioned the mist, There should also be away And influenced us all to want it; To judge between the black and white, Of the banier's lovers, and their shame under covers, To divide the right from day. Who boldly taught others to flaunt it. Yet, many there are who stand and point -- Those flainters, so many, I could not tell if any In every direc tion, it seems -- Really knew that their hos ts fed them lies . To here or there, to this or that, Confused andbeguiled, as the mist-lovers smiled, To everyslight glimmer or gleam They devoured untruth in dis guise. So I pondered these guides, and their mys tical sighs -- The Herald made claim to spoiling this game; To hear, to feel, to see -- Bringing news of the end of dis may. And, inmysurmise, my thoughts soongave rise For those who believed, there was power received To things that seemed quite clear to me. That would just take the mist all away. The answers can't lie ina human supply, When the flaunters perceived what this Herald conceived, Just poirding in everydirection They pretended to lean towards this Man Somehow or someway, the ideals that give sway In perverted refle ctions, they aped crooked confec tions Must come from anoutward commection In attempting to ruin his plan So I looked interil vinto the must; And, some who believed were completely deceived -- But, nothing could Isee. Steered so wrong- though sincerely muis take n For truth was surely hiddenthere -- All good-sounding lies, de formed truth, and jive; What could the answer be? Were the gist of the poisons they'd taken. Easy t'would be to give-into the mist, The Herald, re-kissed, went back through the mist To let it have its way -- And beckoned us follow his lead. To forget about searching for honor and twith -- The barren-in-mind, he left them behind -- To settle for passion and play. The Sower had planted his Seed. But there's a conviction that cuts prettydeep; That Heralding Man ?... This Messenger Grand ?.... Lying dormant in everyone's heart None-other-than Jesus was he. That Something out there has made us aware He came from above. Came downhere in love. That we're not the Whole, but a Part. He came through for you and for me. And to find that Excis tert is surely the quest Yes, Christ is the Man- though not just a man -- Of this curious thing we call Life. Who shows us each step of the Way For, initresides things so deep and so wide Throughthe mist of of our sin, to God back-again That, without it, confusionis rife. Though hidden, He's not far away. One day a Herald came out of the mist, Though thick and concealing, the miststill might keep Suggesting an answer to me. A God fiom His creatures obscured; He said he could lead me to hiddenrealms -- Have faith and be strong. Itwon'tbe too long- He'd already been there, you see. For, Jesus has given the Word.
